The following is an open letter from WISH Project founder Tim Harrison

Africa has touched me to my soul. Despite the fact that these people lack the basic elements for human survival, such as clean water and basic medical care, they have the uncanny ability to latch onto the smallest glimmer of hope.  They grab onto that hope as if their survival depended on it and in many cases, hope is all they have. 

I have seen people full of ambition, drive and hard working in these areas. Why are they so impoverished? How can a hardworking people with such a strong desire to succeed live in that kind of squalor? The answer is that they spend so much of their time and energy meeting only their basic needs for survival that they have very little left for growth. The smallest setback is devastating and it may take years to recover, if they ever can. I cannot stand by and do nothing. The need is much greater than I could possibly have imagined and not enough is being done to meet that need.

The goal of the WISH Project International is to be where the large organizations cannot be. By partnering with local corporations, organizations and communities in our service areas, we listen to the needs of people and determine how and where we can help.  We  cannot do this alone.  We need people with the desire to step out of their comfort zone, into a place that is not convenient and show people that someone, somewhere cares about them.
